In this talk we will present a possible roadmap based on the visions and aspirations of young female students and professionals in the field of Automatic Control.
Diversity is important, it widens viewpoints and takes different ideas and perspectives into account.
Automatic Control is a field where female professionals are very sparse, both in industry and academia. This gender imbalance is unfortunate for the development of the field itself, since its full potential cannot be achieved with only half of the workforce included. Also, research shows that a more diverse and gender balanced work force is more efficient, more creative and fulfilling.
Our project “Female Influencers in Automatic Control” has two parts;
- one looking back on stories and experiences on those women that contributed to control engineering early on and paved the way for others to follow,
- and one looking ahead, trying to capture and highlight dreams and hopes of young female students and professionals.
The two parts are referred to as “Historical Female Influencers in Automatic Control” and “Future Female Influencers in Automatic Control”.
In this talk, entitled “Roadmap by Future Female Influencers in Automatic Control”, we will present results from a study where we have captured the voices of future female control engineers. They all have visions and aspirations but also fears regarding their careers, the development of the field itself, the work environment, and life in general. We will be their voice.
